CIRENCESTER TOWN have added a final pre-season friendly with the visit to Conference Premier side Forest Green Rovers next Friday evening (7.45pm).

Town manager Brian Hughes was happy to accept the approach from FGR this week as it provides his recently-promoted team with a tough test just over a week before their Zamaretto Premier season kicks off with the home match against Banbury on August 14.

Hughes still excepts the scheduled away friendly with Witney to go ahead less than 24 hours after the Forest Green game, although he will have to field a less experienced team.

Meanwhile, Town’s pre-season continues with the visit of a young Bristol City side – which is not expected to include their latest high-profile signing, England goalkeeper David James – at the Corinium Stadium this afternoon (3pm).

Hughes is likely to give a run out to his latest acquisition Matt Walsh from Clevedon Town at left back with Scott Mason, returning from injury, switching to right back.

Walsh, a defender with a penchant for getting forward and previously with Cheltenham Town, Gloucester City and Port Talbot, has long been a Hughes target.

At 5.45pm, Hughes himself will line up in midfield for the Cirencester Town Legends side which takes on Tony Dunn’s RAF Legends team in game in aid of Help for Heroes.

Town Chairman Steve Abbley and current coach Kevin Willetts will play alongside Hughes in midfield.
