Zagar joins Pedersen in star-studded Abbey Stadium line-up
11:04am Saturday 28th January 2012
FANS’ FAVOURITE Matej Zagar will make a welcome return to Swindon for the Bob Kilby Memorial Trophy on Sunday, March 18.
Swindon Robins management were unable to lure Zagar back to the Abbey Stadium as part of their team for 2012 But he has joined a star-studded line-up celebrating Robin legend Kilby.
Lee Richardson and Sebastian Ulamek, two of the team which helped the Robins to the Elite League Final in 2007, have accepted invitations, along with last season’s Rider of the Year, Nicolai Klindt, who is now with Wolves.
Triple World Champion Nicki Pedersen also makes a rare appearance at the Abbey as he is not riding in the Elite League this season.
Co-promoter Gary Patchett said: “For a rider who was with the club for such a short amount of time (in 2009) Matej’s popularity is amazing.
“We have been in talks with him about coming back here for the last couple of seasons but for one reason or another Matej decided British racing wasn’t for him.
“But that doesn’t mean we rule out a potential return to the team in the future.”
Meanwhile. Swindon have drawn Peterborough in the quarter finals of the Elite League Knockout Cup.
That sets up a quick return to their most recent club for new loan signings Hans Andersen and Troy Batchelor.
The date set aside for the home leg of the cup is Thursday, May 24.
